  6.    Features of XPRESS EDIT FB-01 include:

  19.    XPRESS Patch-FM requires:

  28.    Before using XPRESS EDIT FB-01
  29.    ------------------------------

  31.    Make a copy of your XPRESS EDIT FB-01 diskette. This will be your
  32.    backup in the remote case of a disk disaster. 
  33.  
  34.    The XEdit FB-01 diskette contains two utility programs. 
  35.    XEread will display the documentation file XE.readme in a CLI
  36.    window. This allows the user to have access to documentation on
  37.    demand. XEprint will print the documentation file to the printer
  38.    defined in Preferences. Be sure Preferences is set for your
  39.    printer before using this utility.

  42.    Make the necessary MIDI connections:

  50.    To play the FB-01 from the AMIGA keyboard, use Mimetics SoundScape
  51.    console keyboard. If you are not using SoundScape, an external MIDI 
  52.    keyboard is required to play notes on the FB-01.

  54.    To connect an external keyboard without SoundScape, a MIDI merge device 
  55.    is required. MIDI connections are as follows:

  79.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 uses these terms for it's functions:

  81.    LOAD -  load a file from disk (df0:, df1:, ram:, dho: etc.)
  82.       to XPRESS EDIT FB-01.

  84.    SAVE -  save a file to disk (df0:, df1:, ram:, dh0: etc.)
  85.       from XPRESS EDIT FB-01.
  86.  
  87.    RECEIVE - receive a MIDI data dump from FB-01 to XPRESS Patch-FM.

  89.    SEND -  send a MIDI data dump to FB-01 from XPRESS EDIT FB-01.

  92.       Instructions for setting up your Amiga using SoundScape and 
  93.    non-SoundScape environments follow.

  96.    SoundScape and XPRESS EDIT FB-01
  97.    --------------------------------

  99.       XPRESS EDIT FB-01 determines the operating environment by searching
  100.    the system library LIBS: for the SoundScape library. If it exists,
  101.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 will load it, the SoundScape Patch Panel will appear,
  102.    and the main window of XPRESS EDIT FB-01 appears. 
  103.  
  104.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 does not appear on the SoundScape Patch Panel. 
  105.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 shares the SoundScape MIDI port without Patch Panel 
  106.    installation.
  107.  
  108.       If your SoundScape environment is already loaded, the XPRESS EDIT FB-01
  109.    main window will appear. Since the SoundScape library is already
  110.    memory-resident, only XPRESS EDIT FB-01 will need to be loaded.

  113.       Instructions for starting XPRESS EDIT FB-01 using different system
  114.    configurations are listed below. Find your system configuration, follow
  115.    the instructions and begin the XPRESS EDIT FB-01 Sample Session.

  117.    Single Diskette Drive System
  118.    ----------------------------
  119.    Insert your SoundScape diskette as your Workbench diskette after
  120.    Kickstart V1.2. Begin Soundscape and remove the SoundScape diskette.
  121.    
  122.    Insert the XEdit FB-01 diskette. Click the XEdit FB-01 diskette icon.
  123.    Click the XEFB icon to begin an FB-01 editing session.

  127.    Insert your SoundScape diskette as your Workbench diskette after
  128.    Kickstart V1.2.

  141.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 without SoundScape

  145.    Kickstart V1.2. Click the XEdit FB-01 diskette icon. Click the XEFB icon 
  146.    to begin an FB-01 editing session.

  149.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 Introduction 
  150.    ------------------------------
  151.  
  152.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 allows editing of all voice and configuration
  153.    parameters of the YAMAHA FB-01 using 7 Workbench windows. These
  154.    windows are organized in a hierarchy illustrated below.

  170.       When loading XPRESS EDIT FB-01, only the main window appears. The
  171.    main window contains controls for all edit windows. The voice and
  172.    configuration windows are opened when loading or receiving a voice
  173.    or configuration. Receives and loads are performed from the pull-down 
  174.    Edit menu. The Options menu sets the current MIDI channel and Instrument
  175.    voice for this copy of XPRESS EDIT FB-01 to edit. These Options must
  176.    be set correctly to communicate properly with your FB-01.
  177.  
  178.       Once a configuration window is opened, the user has the choice
  179.    of editing one instrument's parameters per window or all 8 instrument
  180.    parameters in a single window. System common parameters are also 
  181.    available for editing in this window.
  182.  
  183.       Once a voice window is opened, the user has the choice
  184.    of editing one operator's parameters per window or all 4 operator
  185.    parameters in a single window. Voice common paramters are also available
  186.    for editing.
  187.  
  188.       When closing a window, any subordinate windows will also be closed.
  189.    For instance, when closing the VOICE window all OPERATOR windows will 
  190.    close automatically.

  193.    XPRESS EDIT FB-01 SAMPLE SESSION 
  194.    --------------------------------

  196.       Select EDIT menu option "Load Configuration". Scroll through the file
  197.    list using the slider gadget at the right of the file load requester. 
  198.    Select the FB-01 configuration file "MONOFB01" by double-clicking 
  199.    the file name. 
  200.  
  201.       The Load menu options also perform a Send operation. The configuration
  202.    is sent on the Options menu System channel. If this is set properly,
  203.    your FB-01 should now be set for MONOFB01 configuration.
  204.  
  205.       Select EDIT menu option "Load Voice". Scroll through the file
  206.    list using the slider gadget at the right of the file load requester. 
  207.    Select the FB-01 voice file "FBVOICE" by double-clicking 
  208.    the file name. 
  209.  
  210.       The Load Voice menu option also perform a Send operation. The voice
  211.    is sent on the Options menu System channel to the Options menu 
  212.    Instrument number. For instance, if the System channel menu option
  213.    is set to 1 and the Instrument number is set to 2, XPRESS EDIT FB-01
  214.    will send the loaded voice on System channel 1 to instrument 2. 
  215.  
  216.       Any MIDI data output by XPRESS EDIT FB-01 uses the Options menu
  217.    settings as its current communications parameters. Changing the System
  218.    channel setting begins a receive operation. XPRESS EDIT FB-01 
  219.    requests a send from an FB-01 on the System channel which has been set.
  220.  
  221.       The buttons at the bottom of the Configuration and Voice windows
  222.    correspond to sub-ordinate windows. Selections 1 through 8 in the
  223.    configuration window correspond to the 8 different instruments. Click
  224.    button 1 at the bottom and the edit window for Instrument 1 appears.
  225.   
  226.       Selections 1 through 4 at the bottom of the voice window correspond
  227.    to the four operators. Click the A button and a single window for all
  228.    operators appears.
  229.  
  230.       Any of the displayed parameters can be edited by clicking inside the
  231.    border surrounding it. The parameter will be incremented (added to) or
  232.    decremented (subtracted from) depending on the setting of the direction
  233.    button in the main window. The value to be incremented or decremented 
  234.    is set by clicking any one of the values under the direction button.
  235.  
  236.       After editing, save your edits using the "Save Configuration" and
  237.    "Save Voice" EDIT menu options. These files can be used to configure
  238.    custom voice banks in XPRESS PATCH-FM.
  239.  
  240.       To store the FB-01 voice permanently, the FB-01 Voice Store function must
  241.    be used.
